BU hockey receives commitment from Liam Connors

While the Hockey East Tournament nears for the Boston University men’s hockey team, that doesn’t mean the coaching staff has turned a blind eye to the recruiting trail.

Rather, the Terriers, as first reported by SB Nation’s Jeff Cox, have secured the services of Liam Connors.

The 2001-born winger plays at the St. Sebastian’s School in nearby Needham, Massachusetts. Aged 16, Connors, per his Elite Prospects page, has also previously skated for the Boston Jr. Bruins and Neponset Valley River Rats.

While Connors won’t arrive on Commonwealth Avenue for several years, early word is he’s quite the talent.

Top prospect Shane Bowers commits to BU

The star-studded prospects just keep on coming for BU head coach David Quinn and the Boston University men’s hockey team.

After receiving a commitment from Dylan Peterson yesterday, USHL center and top 2017 NHL draft prospect Shane Bowers tweeted out his commitment to BU today. Bowers, 17, is one of seven Terrier commits eligible to play next season.

The Canadian-born Bowers is currently in the midst of his second year with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL. He has five goals and four assists through nine games played. The 6-foot, 170 pound center also played for the Canada Under-18 squad in the Hlinka Memorial Cup this year, scoring once in four games.

Bowers is known for his limitless potential and playmaking on the offensive end. With the current Terriers’ squad stacked on offense, it looks like Bowers should have no problem fitting right in on Commonwealth Avenue next season. Here are some more reactions on Bowers’ decision.

BU adds 20-year-old recruit Patrick Curry

The season is over for the Boston University men’s hockey team, but the Terriers added another recruit to their list, as 20-year-old forward Patrick Curry announced his commitment to the school on Twitter.

Curry, a native of Illinois, has played in the last three years in the USHL, most recently with the Bloomington Thunder. In 55 games this season, Curry has 33 points (17 goals and 16 assists), which is good for fifth on the team. In 2013-14, Curry was the top scorer for the Springfield Junior Blues of the NAHL with 26 points in 25 games played.

’95 F Ryan Cloonan commits to BU

According to his Twitter account, 1995-born forward Ryan Cloonan has committed to play hockey at Boston University.

An East Longmeadow native, Cloonan currently plays for the Boston Jr. Bruins of the USPHL. In 47 games this season, he has recorded 61 points (18 goals, 43 assists). He had previously committed to the University of Maine in 2010, but decommitted in 2013 when coach Tim Whitehead was fired.

Earlier reports indicated Boston College had interest in Cloonan.

’97 F Kole Sherwood commits to Boston University

The Terriers added to their impressive list of recruits today, with ’97 F Kole Sherwood announcing his commitment to BU via his Twitter account.

The six-foot forward hails from New Albany, Ohio, and has been noted for his “opportunistic” play and possesses an impressive shot.

Sherwood currently plays for the Ohio Blue Jackets of the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, where he is currently leading the team in goals (22) for a 22-26-48 line in just 31 games.

The young forward hails from a hockey-centric family, as his older brother — Kiefer Sherwood — plays for the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League and is committed to play for Miami University (Ohio) next season.

According to Over the Boards, Sherwood would likely slot into the Terrier roster for either the 2016-17 or 2017-18 season.
