Top five moments from Saturday’s loss to Northeastern

Farrance’s stick takes flight

Junior defenseman David Farrance unleashed a couple of one-timers during one of BU’s power play chances in the second period, with the second causing his stick to snap in two. The bottom half of the twig soared into the air before fortunately catching the glass to stay on the ice, rather than land in the crowd.

BU honors their seniors and graduate students on Senior Day

Before puck-drop, the Terriers honored their four seniors and two graduate students – captain Patrick Curry, assistant captain Patrick Harper, goaltender Nico Lynch, forward Gabe Chabot, goaltender Sam Tucker, and forward Alex Brink. It was a nice moment – that I’m sure was bittersweet for all involved – to see guys who have given their all to the program, for however long they have been with the team, get recognized before the game.

Hughes gets flattened twice in between chances for Zegras

In a crazy sequence in the second period, freshman forward Trevor Zegras got a golden opportunity in front of Craig Pantano, but his shot rang off the post. Going the other way, Kasper Kotkansalo flattened Northeastern’s Riley Hughes before Alex Vlasic got a big piece of the Huskies forward. Then, Harper and Zegras combined on a two-on-two rush, but the frosh could not complete the through-the-legs deke.

Harper scores upon further review

On the power play in the third period, Harper unleashed a slap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that appeared to hit the post and shoot straight out of the net. However, upon further review a few minutes later at the next stoppage, Harper’s shot evidently hit the post before crossing the goal line and ricocheting off the back bar and out to pull BU within one.

Northeastern holds on for the win to secure a playoff berth

Freshman Aidan McDonough opened the scoring for the Huskies before Matt Filipe added insurance in the third. Late in regulation, the Terriers got a power play opportunity and pulled Sam Tucker for the extra-attacker, leading to an onslaught of chances in the Northeastern zone. Pantano came up with some key stops along with clutch defensive clears for Northeastern, preserving the 2-1 victory.
