Swedish defenseman Hugo Blixt announces commitment to BU

Swedish defenseman Hugo Blixt announced his commitment to the Boston University men’s hockey team early Monday night. The 6-foot-3-inch, 194 pound player will join other recruits in the incoming class of 2018-19.

Blixt is currently playing for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL. The Vasteras native has notched three goals and nine assists over 19 games so far, and is currently tied for third most points on the team.

The 19 year old played with the VIK Vasteras HK team for three seasons before traveling across the Atlantic for the first time to play hockey.

“Boston has a tremendous team, great coaching staff, and I liked it right away,” Blixt said in a Tri-City Storm statement. “I felt that this was the best fit for me in my college career.”

  1. Welcome Hugo Blixt! Right away, I like five things about him: (1) He was also recruited by Denver. (2) His team, Tri-City, has by far the lowest goals allowed in the USHL. (3) He is #6 among d-men in scoring within the USHL. (4) He is going to turn 20 next month. (5) His size!

The “20 years old” part is maybe the best thing to like, Glenn.

  3. Well as much as I do like that I can’t say it’s a hard attribute to find LOL. Perhaps it’s hard to find when you’re talking about elite d-men recruits.

  4. Great job by coaching staff to pick up a top recruit. Unfortunately I think Nashville might be calling for Fabro next year as I think he is the best defenseman in NCAA . This kid will probably take his spot.

  5. Collin,
I agree that Fabro is B.U.s’ most talented defensemen. My only criticism is that he does not focus enough on defense. I believe in the Cornell game he was on the ice for all four goals. I blame this more on the coaching then the player. A lack of discipline should not be tolerated at this point in the season. Players must be accountable to the team instead of their own personal stats.

  6. Frozen out that is correct he was on the ice for 4 goals. It is also correct that I have not seen him be beat one on one all year. I can’t say enough good things about him and Krys for that matter. I think they are playing like All Americans. I love Fabro’s D I can’t argue with you on your point because he was on the ice but watching the game I don’t remember saying oh that was his fault or he was out of position. I never saw that. Dante to me is solid in all 3 zones. He is very similar to mccavoy . Trust me when I say it I think we will be hearing about Fabro for years to come he is a very special hockey player ?

    • Colin,
In his post game interview Dante stated that he was disappointed in his defensive effort and that he had to play better in his own end. I agree that Krys is talented but he also loses focus and sacrifices defense for offense that too often lead to odd man rushes or even worse break aways.

  7. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May the New Year bring a few back to back wins and extended winter vacations for some hopefully without an internet connection.

  8. I have to agree with Frozen on this one. Although I’ve only seen a few games so far this year, the defense and goaltending has been the major problem. Blown coverages, prolonged offensive zone possession for the opposition with quality chances given up, bad turnovers all over the ice, one in particular by Krys at offensive blueline vs B.C. resulting in a breakaway goal. These things must be cleaned up in second half or this team is going nowhere in second half. I do think Farrance is also an outstanding talent.

    • Vito,
I agree with the majority of your assessment. However I believe the goaltending is part of the solution and not a problem. if they played a disciplined defensive game I believe the results would dramatically improve.
I received notification of free tickets in my account for the next two games and a mid season coaching letter attempting to explain the 8-10-1 record.(28th pairwise) Somebody besides myself must have realized that the poor results have had a negative impact on attendance. One sellout a year and a struggle to average around 4,000 fans a night. Significantly smaller, I would guess around 20% then the previous coach who felt strong attendance was an important factor to on ice success.

      • Larry,
Stop beating around the bush and just come right out and say it in your posts….FIRE QUINN, HE SUCKS, PARKER IS GOD, I WANT TO FEEL IMPORTANT TO THIS TEAM.
Jeez your posts are ALLLLLL the same…u disagree with almost every comment on here, the fault of EVERY loss is Quinn’s, (NEVER mention any credit during a win) You’re pissed off there’s no FOBU, horrified actually, attendance is down ever since GOD I mean Parker retired, (ALL attendance is down but that’s not important)
Honestly, it was much nicer when you didn’t post.

        • Sean,
I did not know you were dictating who should post. DO NOT PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH. I never called for your buddies dismissal. it is not my job or function. Even I believe that he deserves the opportunity to turn the season around in the next semester. CREDIT FOR 8 WINS In 19 Games!
Some more very fake news! Although I do admire Jack Parker and believe he got shafted by the administration, the person that was one of my mentors was Jack Kelly.
I have moved on from the FOH and actually enjoy going on additional vacations. I spend less time on B.U.Hockey like many of the former FOH and former players. The only reason I go to games is to spend time with my now adult children.
To rationalize the attendance issues is simply a losers mentality. Definitely not surprising considering the source.

I have a more overview of why there are not many fans in the seats. As a long time fan and one who can remember when getting into Walter Brown on most nights was difficult at best. What there is a lack of attendance: ( by the way down everywhere in college hockey and college football)1. Lack on TV exposure the last few years and this year only one game on TV; 2 “digital radio” that has most nights only myself listening I do believe. Rank and file old time fans want to follow their team in on their radios and not listening to I phones and computers. Also by doing this the games are not listed in the papers as being played at all.;3 The break up the last two years of the season when the “under’ teams take over hockey. All we see on the sites of BU hockey are the handful of players who play in games NOT FOR THE VARSITY BU HOCKEY TEAM. Who the hell cares about these games vis a vis the VARSITY BU Hockey that we have come to love to follow ? ONE MONTH OFF ? WHY ?4 BU now has a population of many international students who are not hockey fans at all. Much more than the past; 5 The, as I understand it, of the Friends Program. Why ; 6 Te new rules almost prohibit checking on the ice and has CHANGED the game so much that many times it is like watching NBA regular season, non defense, basketball; 7 Many of the old time Kelly/ Parker fans who witnessed a great exciting program are now much older and do not come to games.. These are some of the reason one can get a ticket to a BC game minutes before faceoff.

    • Son of CC,
Excellant obsevations! I agree with you about the under tournament teams. Especially when the B.U. players perform better and are more dedicated to those teams then B.U. Ironic that B.U. has almost as many players playing in tournaments as the varsity has victories. ( 8 wins , 6 players in tournaments)
The change in population of students does not effect the vast amount of older alumni that have settled in this area. I know for a fact that many of the Kelly and Parker fans no longer attend games. In fact several million dollars in legacy donation have disappeared with them.
It would be nice if the team actually won the one game that is sold out every year. In fact it may even give some apathetic fans a reason to return.

  10. Well I am also very disappointed that the FOH was dissolved. I was a member for about a decade and really enjoyed meeting other fans in the Friends lounge, giving me a chance to connect with other fans, discuss the program both in the past and the present. For me it was an important part of the experience of being an alumnus and a fan. Also the manner in which it was done, vague answers to questions, and also lies, about the Lounge and benefits show a lack of respect for the fans and alumni.
I don’t know why attendance is down, like I said I haven’t been to many games this year but do plan to attend more, its probably due to a number of reasons which have been mentioned. However one has not been, no live radio coverage of any games, just internet coverage with Bernie and Terrier TV which I have problems getting live. Imagine historically one of the top programs in the country and you can’t get their games on the radio?!, unless of course the Terriers are playing Harvard, B.C., or Northeastern and you can get their broadcast. I don’t think, the lack of a radio broadcast, helps to promote the program either.

    • Some more valid comments that are insightful, fair and balanced. The disgraceful nature that those in power dismantled the FOH is combing back to bite them. The fact the FOH lounge was closed and now is being rented out by opponent friends and alumni is more than RIDICULOUS.There is no plausible explanation for the preceding. Do not believe the lies and ambiguous explanation from those in charge. They got what they deserved!
Both Jack Kelly and Jack Parker strongly believed in a strong FOH as a way to not only fund raise but to promote the program and develop a loyal fan base. This has now been destroyed.
Also it was important to them that the games be on radio and the friends always made sure that occurred if their assistance was necessary. I attempted to get internet coverage and the volume was so low that I thought Bernie was broadcasting from the Mugar Library. If you cannot hear the broad cast or receive a decent picture on Terrier TV, why bother.

  11. If they win more fans will come. For the average fan, not the die hards, why waste a Saturday night watching a sub 500.

I think atrendenac in all sports is somewhat predicated on the success of the team. Just ask scalpers

    • Vinnie,
      Excellant obsevation!
If you were a neutral fan and could see two teams battle for first or a below average team in the middled of the pack which choice would you make to spend your hard earned dollars?
Would you go to a movie with a poor review or a restaurant with lousy food? Especially when you had alternatives within close proximity.
