From the FreeP: Matt Lane excels in 2nd game of weekend sweep

By Meredith Perri/DFP Staff

Friday night was special for the Boston University men’s hockey team. It celebrated its seniors, it honored former coach Jack Parker and it won its first game in nearly a month. Sophomore wing Matt Lane sat on the bench as a spectator for all of it.

While he was dressed for the game, a disciplinary action stopped him and three other Terriers (10-20-4, 5-12-3 Hockey East) from seeing ice time.

Twenty-four hours later, the sophomore threw his hand up into the air after he scored his second goal of the game en route to the Terriers completing a weekend sweep of Northeastern University.

“The best way to motivate him is to sit him,” said BU coach David Quinn. There is no other way to do it. I benched him toward the end of a game about three or four weeks ago, and he came back and had his best night shortly thereafter. Obviously he sat [Friday] and he comes back and he plays the way he did tonight.”

  1. Nice to see Lame bounce back after a very slow start to the season. Looks like he might turn into a solid contributor.

  2. Regarding the donations: what happens to the money if there isn’t enough to send you to ND?

    • I had the same question. I am willing to donate but I want to make sure that the money is being used for the trip and not for anything else. Please confirm what happens to donated money if you end up not getting enough to go.

    • While we are still looking for donations, we will definitely be going on the trip at this point. All of the money donated will be going toward funding our trip to Notre Dame to cover the first round of the Hockey East Tournament. Thank you to all who have supported us so far!

  3. Way to go Lane!!!!!! Also a great game from Somerby.

  4. I tried to use the Donation link but it doesn’t work. Can I do it via mail?

    • The donation link should be working now. Thanks!

    • The link is working but the process is not. It keeps giving me problems when I try to do it by credit card … saying I have to use Paypal … then I log onto Paypal and I get “Account Overview” messages. How else can we do this?

    • The link works but the process does not. Please give me a phone number or some contact information so I can arrange the donation another way.

    • Hi Glenn, sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I didn’t have a chance to use my computer much yesterday. If you would like to mail a donation, you can do so to by sending a check to 648 Beacon St., first floor, Boston, MA 02215. Let me know if you have any more questions, and thank you so much for your dedication and support! It really means a lot.

    • Hi Kevin! Thanks for getting back to me and giving me your address. I am mailing the check today. I was also helped via phone by your office manager … whose name I forgot. Anyway, I appreciate that you appreciate my dedication and support. Let’s hope that you get to cover a game that propels our Terriers into the next round of the Hockey East playoffs. Either way, good job to all of you who have written here throughout the season on the BHB.

  5. Just made a very nice donation for you. Have fun at ND.
