When Boston University men’s hockey coach David Quinn walked into his team’s dressing room after the second period Saturday night, the Terriers were down 27-8 in shots to Merrimack College and had barely controlled the puck through the majority of the contest. He sensed his team was feeling down on itself after two consecutive games in which its offense did not even muster 20 shots.
So instead of yelling at his players for their poor performance, he lightened the mood by making a joke.
“I just said, ‘Hey, we poured it on that period. We got five,’” Quinn said. “It’s the pink elephant in the room … What are you going to do, not talk about it? Sometimes things are so bad, you have to make light of it.”
The joke seemed to do the trick — at least a little bit — as the Terriers (7-7-2, 2-4-1 Hockey East) doubled their shot total from the first two periods over the next frame and five-minute overtime period, finishing the contest in a 1-1 tie at Agganis Arena Saturday night. Still, the low shot total through the first two periods is representative of a recent trend for BU, which cannot seem to get the puck on goal.

Uh that’s MR. DQ to you…and is that all you got? Figures…..you really need to come up with some better insults, the ones you use over and over and over are getting dull little boy.

agreed. Powers will be gone at the end of the season. New players coming with far more talent than they have now, which in turn will make Quinn’s job much easier. I’m amazed they even have 7 wins with what her has to work with. He’s got great hockey sense, an uncanny eye for recruiting, (2009 shows that) and obviously can squeeze talent out of mediocre players, at best. I’m very excited to see him transform this program back into the powerhouse it once was.

Whatever you say Mrs. DQ.

As a long time fan of BU I am not surprised at the first half. This team has the least talent of any team up front that I can remember. There just seems to be no go to guys at all. I think David is a good hockey guy that could use a younger coach with him. Powers might be a great guy but he does not show energy on the bench. Players reflect a coach’s enthusiasm. This is a small matter vis a vis the problems this year but it is one consideration.

MAybe they want to get rid of substandard fans like you.dude, Parker and quinn arethisclose…..funny he is all for quinn to taking over for him. What’s your problem?

Amusing to see fans of other teams come here to defend DQ just because they want us stuck with a substandard coach. These were no doubt the same people who wanted Parker fired because he was great for us.

It’s so pathetically obvious that you have a personal vendetta against David Quinn that began way before the season started and that you use this blog to take your shots.

You mad bro? Don’t let him get to you.

So instead of coaching, DQ tells jokes? I’m sure BU fans, players, and recruits are not happy to see what a poor coach he is.

Nice to see the team get more shots after abandoning all efforts to play defense. Way to go DQ!
