Another New England native commits to BU

By Tim Healey/DFP Staff

Sam Kurker, a right winger/center ready to start his senior year at St. John’s Prep, has verbally committed to Boston University, fulfilling what he called a childhood dream of being a Terrier. The Salem News broke the story last night.

A Reading native, Kurker has been in touch with BU coaches since the Select 16s camp last summer, but his arrival on campus may not be for some time. He will suit up for the Terriers starting in the fall of 2012 or 2013, depending on whether or not he plays a year of junior hockey after high school.

f Kurker joins the Terriers in 2012, he will join just defenseman Marc Hetnik (Chestnut Hill) as a local recruit. However, should Kurker come to BU in 2013, he will join right winger

Robbie Baillargeon (Enfield, Conn.), forward Danny O’Regan (Needham), and forward Brendan Collier and defenseman Matt

Grzelcyk

(Charlestown) as New England-native recruits.

In the meantime, he will captain St. John’s 2011-12 team as he looks to build on a junior season during which he set career highs in goals (20) and assists (17).
