Off to its best nine-game start since 2014, the Boston University women’s hockey team is first in Hockey East and has won five straight games. Fresh off a home sweep of Syracuse University, the Terriers (6-3, 4-1 HE) are set for two games against Providence College.
Forget which line Lola Reid is playing on. The goals are coming regardless.
Part of fulfilling championship aspirations is proving you belong at the adults’ table. The Terriers have done that. But an equally important part is proving the kids don’t belong with you.
BU, with its big aspirations and its new player-led movement, needed proof of concept against a top team in the country. It needed a win against a cross-town rival it hadn’t beaten in forever. And it needed a response.
The Terriers (2-3-0, 1-2-0 Hockey East) broke the 12-game winless streak, including a heartbreaker in last season’s Beanpot Final, with a 4-0 shutout of the No. 12 Huskies (3-3-0, 1-1-0 HEA) at Agganis Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers couldn’t complete the comeback against the No. 14 Northeastern, falling 2-1 in overtime at TD Garden in the Beanpot Championship game.
In the second straight game, the Boston University women’s hockey team struck first, and in the second straight game, it won.
At the top of her crease, Callie Shanahan tracked the puck, poke-checked it and the game was over. The Terriers would advance to the 2024 Beanpot Championship at TD Garden.
The Terriers (9-10-2, 7-8-1 Hockey East) fell 5-2 against the Huskies (14-6-2, 11-3-1 HEA) in a game much closer and much more competitive than the score implies.
The Boston University women’s hockey team fell 5-3 to the Boston College Eagles in Friday’s morning matchup, with the Terriers’ rival finding two goals to overcome a 3-3 tie late in third.
