The Terriers won the Hockey East Championship Saturday night, but only got to revel in their victory for a couple of hours. With gameday versus the Western Michigan University Broncos just five days after their coronation, the Boston University men’s hockey team got back to work immediately, with eyes set on a much larger prize.
Fueled by a two-goal, characteristic performance from Lane Hutson, the Boston University men’s hockey team (27-10-0, 19-6-0 Hockey East) clinched the 2023 Hockey East Championship title in a 3-2 overtime win against the Merrimack College Warriors (23-13-1, 16-9-0 HE).
The Terriers made their return to the TD Garden after having seemingly recovered from the malaise that was onset by the Beanpot. After a sketchy 60 minutes, BU found its game in overtime to beat the Providence College Friars 2-1.
Zabaneh’s three-goal eruption against the Catamounts came as no surprise to Jay Pandolfo or his teammates. Instead, the offensive breakthrough was a quantifiable representation of the way Zabaneh has been playing for weeks now.
The Terriers suited up in their home whites for the last time (…at home) in the team’s first game of the Hockey East playoffs with a matinee matchup against the University of Vermont Catamounts (11-20-5 5-17-3 HE).
The No. 5 Boston University men’s hockey team (24-10-0, 18-6-0 Hockey East) will take on the University of Vermont Catamounts (11-19-5, 5-16-3 HE) in the Hockey East quarterfinals in their last game at Agganis Arena this season.
Boston University men’s hockey head coach Jay Pandolfo drew back to a fourth line combination — Jamie Armstrong, Sam Stevens and Devin Kaplan — he hadn’t dialed up since early January on Saturday night.
It was senior night at Agganis Arena as the Boston University men’s hockey team (23-10-0, 17-6-0 Hockey East) honored its 11 class of 2023 members ahead of besting the Providence College Friars (14-12-7, 9-8-6 HE) by a score of 6-4.
That elation, which took place as the BU men’s hockey team walked back to the locker room after completing a sweep of the University of Vermont, captured why this weekend was so important. BU’s two wins over UVM injected life into a locker room that was beginning to reel.
Led by the buzzing junior forward Dylan Peterson, the Boston University men’s hockey team (21-10-0, 15-6-0 Hockey East) got their swagger back in a 5-3 victory over the University of Vermont Catamounts (9-17-5, 4-14-3 HE) tonight at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
