BU captain and defenseman Matt Grzelcyk has signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins, the team announced Friday. He will join the Providence Bruins of the AHL on an Amateur Tryout Agreement for the remainder of the year.
Grzelcyk was a third-round, 85th overall draft pick of the Boston Bruins in 2012.

Grzelcyk finished his BU career with 95 points in 125 contests. He was named a First Team All-American for the 2014-15 season, and earned Hockey East First Team All-Star honors in his junior and senior years.
In his senior season, in 27 appearances, he had 23 points and finished as a plus-17.
He is the BU second player this week to sign a pro contract, as Danny O’Regan signed with the San Jose Sharks on Friday.
Congrats Matt! You were a great BU captain.
Hope him well but the Bruins do not favor college players. Hope he has a back up plan for a career. Interesting story of a former BU guy that went early and was hurt in the Globe a few weeks ago. he is now about 28 and said he can’t make a living playing hockey and can not do anything else. What a sad statement. He had a full boat to BU but did not ever think he needed an education for a long term career. As I said i hope grizz has a back up plan.
Go get em Matt! ? Great kid great hockey player.
son of caesar
