’00 F’s Jack DeBoer and Tyler Weiss commit to BU

The Boston University men’s hockey team picked up a pair of ’00 forwards on Wednesday in Jack DeBoer and Tyler Weiss.

DeBoer, son of San Jose Sharks head coach Pete DeBoer, announced his commitment over Twitter on Wednesday morning.

“Proud to announce my commitment to play college hockey at Boston University,” he wrote. “Thanks to everyone who has supported me along the way.”

The Providence Journal’s Mark Divver reported the news earlier in the morning as well, adding that the 6-foot-2 forward’s “skating could use work but having just turned 15 he’s got lots of time. Expect interest from NTDP.”

DeBoer logged time in the Atlantic Youth Hockey League last season for the New Jersey Colonials, tallying 27 goals along with 35 assists for 62 total points in 35 games.

Now moving to prep school, DeBoer will be a sophomore at the Salisbury School this fall playing for the Crimson Knights, who have won the past three New England Division I Prep Championships.

The Terriers also grabbed Weiss, who announced his commitment in similar fashion Wednesday as well.

“Proud to announce my commitment to Boston University,” he wrote. “Thank to my all the people that helped me along the way.”

Weiss, a 5-foot-11 left shot, “evades contact well but reads the play even better” and “has a good frame and quickness to pair up with stick skills,” according to Mark Bilotta of Over The Boards.

Weiss played this past season for the Don Mills Flyers AAA in the Greater Toronto Bantam Hockey League.
