Terriers release 2017-18 home schedule

Terrier fans can already begin planning their visits to Agganis Arena as the Boston University men’s hockey team announced their home schedule for 2017-18 on Wednesday afternoon.

Luckily for the BU faithful, the team is scheduled to begin their season earlier than ever before. For the first time since their inception, the Terriers will begin their regular season before October. BU will kick off its season at home for the first time since 1992-93 as they play host to Union on September 30.

The home crowd will be treated to numerous high-profile tilts this coming season, beginning with the Terriers’ jam-packed October slate featuring a handful of formidable opponents. On October 13 and 14, Minnesota State, the No. 1 overall seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, will pay a visit to Agganis Arena for a two-game series. This set marks the first ever matchup between the Mavericks and Terriers.

Just two weeks later, the stakes will be ratcheted up even further, as defending national champion the University of Denver will serve as a measuring stick for the Terriers. The Pioneers raced through the NCAA Tournament after being handed the No. 1 overall seed this past spring, and look to be one of the favorites to reach the Frozen Four in 2018. In what is likely to be a contest pitting two teams ranked in the top ten of the NCAA polls, BU will seek its fourth consecutive home victory over Denver.

The Terriers should not have to wait long to host another highly-ranked opponent. After the month of November, in which BU hosts three Hockey East opponents in the span of eight days (Providence College, Northeastern University, and University of New Hampshire), the rink heats up in the month of Christmas with visits from both Boston College (Dec. 2) and University of Massachusetts Lowell (Dec. 9). The Terriers’ crosstown enemies finished 16th in the USCHO.com rankings at the conclusion of 2016-17 while the River Hawks ended the season two slots above the Terriers at No. 4.

After an exhibition against the U.S. Under-18 National Team to begin 2018, BU will jump right back into Hockey East competition on January 6 with a matchup against the University of Maine. This is followed by a second home tilt against the Friars, who finished 15th in the USCHO.com rankings last season, before Merrimack College returns to Agganis Arena on January 20. The Warriors stunned the Terriers in the last week of January last season, blowing out BU 3-1 on home ice before shocking Hockey East with a 4-1 victory on Commonwealth Ave. three nights later.

The Hockey East competition continues in February, as BU will host University of Massachusetts Amherst on February 9 before a two-game home set against the University of Vermont to close out the month. The Terriers earned a split in their two games in Burlington, Vt. last season.

BU announces 2015-16 men’s ice hockey schedule

The Boston University men’s hockey team’s 2015-16 schedule was announced by head coach David Quinn on Wednesday afternoon.

The Terriers will open play with an exhibition game Oct. 3 at Agganis Arena, hosting Acadia University in the first of two just-for-show contests. The second will take place at home two weeks later on Oct. 16 when the U.S. National U-18 Team rolls in with BU commits Clayton Keller, Kieffer Bellows and Jake Oettinger on the roster.

The regular season begins on Oct. 10 with a road trip to Union College, marking BU’s first non-conference game of the year as well. The Terriers start their Hockey East schedule Oct. 24 and 27 with a home-and-home against the University of Connecticut.

Also on tap for the Terriers this year is the biennial Red Hot Hockey matchup against Cornell University at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 28 and, as always, the Beanpot Tournament on the first two Mondays of February. The semifinals will be Feb. 1, 2016 against Northeastern University, which BU defeated to win its 30th championship this past season, while the final and consolation game will take place Feb. 8.

In addition, the Terriers host the University of Wisconsin (Oct. 17), Denver University (Oct. 31), University of Michigan (Nov. 20 and 21) and Bentley University (Nov. 24) as a part of their out of conference agenda. They’ll also head over to Brighton on Jan. 7, 2016 for a crosstown showdown against Harvard University and swing down to Connecticut for a weekend back-to-back set with Yale University and Quinnipiac University the weekend of Dec. 11.

The national runners-up will also be able to get on the ice for a rematch against the Friars at Providence College on Nov. 13, almost exactly seven months after the national championship game, before returning to Agganis to play PC the following day. And after two years of the Boston College series being spread out across the season, the Terriers will play their rival Eagles twice in one weekend on Jan. 15 and 16, 2016.

Unlike in years past, the Hockey East regular season and postseason champs close out their conference schedule with a two-game series at the University of Notre Dame on Feb. 26 and 27, a weekend that had been reserved for Northeastern for the past six years. The Terriers will play the Huskies Nov. 6 and 7 this year instead.

David Quinn’s second go-around with the Boston University men’s hockey team looks to be a memorable, if not challenging, campaign.
The program released its 2014-15 schedule Thursday, revealing plenty of both new and familiar matchups for the Terriers.
Games against reigning NCAA champion Union College, University of Wisconsin, University of Michigan and both the U.S. National Junior Team and the U.S. National Under-18 Team highlight the schedule for the Terriers, who are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2013-14 year.
BU’s season will kick off on Oct. 4, as the Terriers will host St. Thomas University-New Brunswick before opening up regular-season play on the road against the University of Massachusetts-Amherst on Oct. 10.
The Terriers will then host the U.S. U-18 team on Oct. 18 before starting their home schedule the following weekend with games against Michigan State University and Michigan on Oct. 24 and 25, respectively.
Other notable non-conference games on the schedule include the first ever meeting between Union and BU at Agganis Arena on Jan. 3 and contests against Harvard University (Nov. 25), Colgate University (Nov. 29), Dartmouth College (Nov. 30) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Dec. 13).
The Terriers will also travel to Madison for the first time since 2000 to take on Wisconsin in a two-game road tilt on Jan. 9-10. BU will also move back to its old confines of Walter Brown Arena on Dec. 19 to take on the U.S. National Junior Team.
Twenty-two Hockey East games are set for the upcoming season, including a home game against Boston College on Jan. 16. Two Hockey East teams will be making their first trips up to Agganis this season, as BU will host the University of Notre Dame for a weekend series on Feb. 20-21 and new conference member University of Connecticut on Nov. 16.
The Terriers will kick off the 63rd annual Beanpot on Feb. 2 and 9 at TD Garden. BU will take on Harvard in the first round before taking on either Boston College or Northeastern University the following weekend.
