Boston University men’s hockey competed in its annual Scarlet and White Scrimmage Saturday morning at Agganis Arena with a 6-3 win for the Scarlet team.
Here are three takeaways from the scrimmage:
Cole Eiserman’s scoring abilities are here to stay.
The sophomore forward may have a flair for announcing lineups, but his scoring touch remains his true signature.
After leading all NCAA rookies, and all Terriers, with 25 goals last season, Eiserman showed no signs of slowing down. He scored two consecutive goals in the second period, one assisted by fellow assistant captain and defenseman Cole Hutson.
Eiserman opened the game on Team Scarlet’s top line alongside freshman Ryder Ritchie and sophomore transfer Sacha Boisvert. With a steady stream of passes coming his way, Eiserman didn’t hesitate to fire, with most of his shots landing on net.
Conrad Fondrk was in a blue jersey.
Fondrk sustained a season-ending lower-body injury last year at the U.S. National Team Development Program, and signs suggest he may still be recovering. During the scrimmage, the freshman wore a blue jersey, indicating a no-contact designation.
He skated on Team Scarlet’s line alongside assistant captain Jack Harvey and senior transfer Owen McLaughlin. Despite limited physical engagement, Fondrk made his presence felt by scoring a goal late in the first period.
If his shooting touch from his NTDP days — particularly his one-timer — translates to the collegiate level, Fondrk could emerge as a key offensive weapon. Should he suit up for the season opener on Saturday, his rookie flair may complement the veteran experience of Harvey and McLaughlin.
Bednarik-Murtagh-Svoboda is something to look out for.
Sophomores Kamil Bednarik and Brandon Svoboda, along with freshman Jack Murtagh, showcased impressive defensive prowess as forwards.
Last season, Bednarik and Svoboda were steady contributors for the Terriers. Bednarik posted a 2-17-19 stat line and recorded 29 blocked shots, underscoring his two-way value. Svoboda tallied seven goals and two assists and played a key role on the penalty kill throughout the season.
With Murtagh’s size and strength added to the mix, the trio appears poised to deliver punishing hits and shut down opposing lines — forming a unit likely to generate significant impact for the Terriers, if they carry over their chemistry from the scrimmage to the regular season.
