Boston University men’s hockey’s season is complete, and the focus of the college hockey world has turned to pro signings and transfer portal entries.
This page is a centralized hub for BU’s offseason news, and it will be updated as news comes out.
Pro signings
Forward Ryan Greene signs with the Chicago Blackhawks
After three standout seasons with the Terriers, the junior signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the Blackhawks on April 13. He made his NHL debut in Chicago’s 4-3 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens on April 14.
As a co-captain this year, Greene had a career year with 13 goals and 25 assists. In his three years at BU, he totaled 34 goals and 104 points. Greene was drafted 57th overall by the Blackhawks in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Forward Quinn Hutson signs with the Edmonton Oilers
The junior was never selected in the NHL Draft, but he signed an entry-level contract with the Oilers after a stellar three-year career with BU.
After signing a two-year deal with Edmonton, Hutson became the 98th Terrier to play in the NHL when he made his debut in the Oilers’ 5-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on April 14.
Forward Devin Kaplan signs with the Philadelphia Flyers
The junior signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Flyers on April 15 and became the 100th Terrier to make his NHL debut in Philadelphia’s 5-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on April 17.
The last of BU’s junior class from this season, Kaplan netted 25 goals and 64 points across his three years with the Terriers. The Bridgewater, New Jersey, native was picked in the third round (69th overall) by the Flyers in 2022.
Defenseman Tom Willander signs with the Vancouver Canucks
The sophomore signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Canucks that will begin during the 2025-26 season after a long back-and-forth with the organization.
In his two seasons as a Terrier, Willander scored six goals and recorded 43 assists while being a steady presence on the blue line. He was selected 11th overall by Vancouver in 2023.
Forward Shane Lachance signs with the New Jersey Devils
The sophomore co-captain signed a two-year, entry-level deal with the Devils on April 16 after two seasons with the Terriers. In 80 games, Lachance scored 25 goals and recorded 32 assists.
He appeared in two games for the Utica Comets — New Jersey’s AHL affiliate — at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and scored a goal and picked up an assist. Lachance was drafted by Edmonton in 2021 but had his rights traded to the Devils in March.
Forward Matt Copponi signs with the Bakersfield Condors
The senior is headed to central California on an amateur tryout deal with the Condors — the Oilers’ AHL affiliate — after tallying a 6-18-24 line with the Terriers this season.
The Mansfield, Mass., native signed with Bakersfield on April 15 and appeared in three games at the end of its season, where he tallied two assists. Copponi, who transferred to BU after three seasons at Merrimack, was a seventh-round pick of the Oilers in 2023.
Goaltender Mathieu Caron signs with Anglet Hormadi
The senior will play professionally in Ligue Magnus — France’s top league — in 2025-26. Caron signed with Anglet Hormadi on May 16.
After playing two seasons at BU, Caron initially signed an amateur tryout deal with the Florida Everblades — the ECHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues — on April 18 but never played a game with the team.
Transfer portal arrivals and departures
Forward Sacha Boisvert joins BU from North Dakota
Boisvert announced on his social media on April 17 that he will join the Terriers for the 2025-26 season.
A center, Boisvert played his freshman season for the Fighting Hawks, where he led North Dakota in points (32) and goals (18) in 37 games. He was named the NCHC Rookie of the Year.
A native of Trois-Rivières, Que., Boisvert was selected 18th overall by the Blackhawks in 2024. He’ll be 19 years old when next season begins.
Forward Owen McLaughlin reportedly joining BU from North Dakota
After three seasons with the Fighting Hawks, McLaughlin is heading to BU alongside Boisvert, according to Frank Seravalli. Although the move hasn’t been officially announced, McLaughlin’s Instagram bio does say “BU.”
McLaughlin posted a 5-30-35 line for North Dakota this past season and was drafted by the Flyers 206th overall in 2021.
Forward Alex Zetterberg transfers to Minnesota State
After his freshman year at BU, Zetterberg will play for the Mavericks next season, Sydney Wolf announced on May 16.
Zetterberg put his skill on display in the first semester, and he finished the year with a 5-3-8 line. But at 5-foot-8, his undersized frame left him out of the lineup for much of the second half, and throughout the Terriers’ run to the national championship game.
Forward Doug Grimes transfers to Miami
The sophomore will play for the RedHawks next season, Mike McMahon announced on April 23.
Grimes played sparingly in the first half of the year and suffered a season-ending injury in the second semester. He only finished the season with one point — a goal in BU’s 5-2 loss to Maine at Alfond Arena on Nov. 15.
Defenseman Jack Page enters transfer portal
Page became a regular in BU’s lineup this season as a senior after rarely seeing ice time in his previous three years, but he’ll be testing the waters of the transfer portal, according to the Grand Forks Herald’s tracker.
The West Chester, Pa., native skated on the Terriers’ third defensive pairing with Aiden Celebrini down the team’s stretch run, and finished the year with two assists.
Forward Jack Gorton enters the transfer portal
The sophomore only appeared in three games over his first two seasons as a Terrier and entered the transfer portal on May 15, according to Clean Sheet Hockey’s tracker.
