Trevor Zegras inked a three-year professional contract with the Anaheim Ducks on Friday evening, leaving Boston University after one season.
A native of Bedford, NY and graduate of the United States National Team Development Program, the 19-year old Zegras was selected ninth overall by Anaheim in the 2019 NHL draft.
Zegras served as BU’s first-line center for the length of the 2019-20 season, starring offensively for the Terriers with 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points in 33 games. He was recognized with Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors at the end of the season.
He led all Hockey East freshmen in assists, ranking second among all NCAA division-one first-years. Nationally, his 36 points and 1.09 points per game put him in a tie for third across his class.
After impressing with Team USA at the World Juniors this past winter, Zegras made headlines in the Beanpot with an assist on BU’s late go-ahead goal against Boston College and two goals against Northeastern in the title game, including a last-second equalizer.
Zegras put up nine multi-point games and five point streaks of three games or more. He ended his collegiate career with an assist in four consecutive games.
