Terrier head coach Albie O’Connell revealed during his media availability on Thursday that junior forward Ty Amonte will miss the entire 2019-20 campaign due to an upper-body injury. The team anticipates Amonte will return for the 2020-21 season as a redshirt junior if recovery goes as expected.

The Norwell, Massachusetts, native recorded eight goals and eight assists for 16 points last season to go along with a minus-six rating and 41 penalty minutes in 37 games as a sophomore. During his freshmen year with BU, the 21-year-old registered 6-3-9 totals in 36 games as well as 12 penalty minutes and a minus-four rating.

  1. This is a big loss for this team. Ty has a knack to score big goals when the team needs it. He play’s the game at full throttle. Ty never takes a night off. I think with our team depth we will be ok at filling the big void we are left with without Ty in our lineup. I know this is probably eating Ty up but in the long run I can see Ty as our captain for possibly two years. I think ty will come back even better then he was projected to be this year, just because he will work his heart out to make sure he is the best player he can be. Hopefully Ty won’t go too far as he has a dynamic personality in the Locker room. He is a leader with a bit of flair and craziness but at the same time a concentrated level of proven leadership he uses to motivate his team. This leadership has been shown on the ice weight room and the community. All of the above are reasons Ty will be important this year and I’m looking forward to when he makes his return next year. • This is all true Colin, and I think his character will really help him rebound from this. They will miss his clutch scoring for sure, but if he stays around the team, his energy and passion can still make a mark.

  2. I agree Colin. Next season we will have skilled, older guys. Let’s see how the 2020 frosh fill in for him for now.

    • There’s certainly enough depth at center to fill the spot, Glenn, but his veteran presence and knack for big goals will be the hardest to replace.

On a team with little experience this is a big blow. Getting a little tired waiting for “next season”. The later is getting real old. Must be quite an “upper body” injury to be out for the year.

    • That was my initial reaction too, SOCC – tough to lose a veteran before the season even starts. One guy doesn’t determine the fate of the whole team though, and at least they’ve had time throughout the preseason to adjust to his absence.

  4. Not at all giving up on this year. This season I am expecting at least an at-large NCAA bid.

    • They’ll have to turn some heads early to get there Glenn, but if things come together well, I can see them doing it!

  5. Son of Cesar he played through shoulder injuries last year. In hindsight he probably should have had surgery this summer the kid just wanted to play. If this was something he could play through he would Ty is tough as nails .

Colin, thank you for the information. Yea, I love the way he plays. Sometimes it is a tough decision to operate or try other methods. That said it seems this team has a problem getting players back from injury. Just my opinion.
