Former BU committ Ryan O’Connell commits to Ohio State

Former Boston University men’s hockey commit and Toronto Maple Leafs’ prospect Ryan O’Connell has committed to The Ohio State University.

Despite being a seventh-round pick in last years draft, O’Connell did not play for BU this past season, instead, he played for the Princeton Vees on the BCHL.

BU graduated three defensemen this past May in Brien Diffley, Jonathan MacLeod and captain Brandon Hickey.

  1. Correction: Ryan did not play for BU this past season.

  2. You’re very welcome Matthew.

  3. in one of my earlier blogs i said, can you all sing “when the recruits go marching out.” get ready, boys and girls. they will be dropping like flies

  4. Vinnie not worried a bit team looks great. We will be fine go bu๐Ÿพ

  5. Vinnie,
This is the fallout when a coach leaves unexpectedly. Both parents and players were unhappy that the person who made a commitment to them abruptly leaves the program.
This is not a reflection on the new coach. Do not be surprised if there are additions to the list.
Any announcement on the rest of the coaching staff?

  6. Son of Caesar carlaci

The way I see it is if a guy does not want to play for BU and its tradition than see you later and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Another Prima Donna. Eighth round pick I believe ? Horrors ? How can we replace him ???!!!!

  7. If Wise and Farabee arrive and there are no more defections from the returning players (including Tkaczuk, a big ?), the team should be in good shape talent wise. Remember just 2 years ago we had 4 1st rounders and we won nada.

  8. I heard rumblings about Ryan not coming to BU long before Quinn left. Not all of the departures have anything to do with the current coaching situation.

  9. Vito,
I agree even if a everyone returns it depends on the commitment to team goals not individual ones.

  10. Northeastern reaffirms its commitment to the hockey program and associate head coach Jerry Keefe who will be staying at the school for the foreseeable future.

  11. Vinnie,
Not good news as allegedly he was Albies first choice to become associate head coach. Hard to believe that he would continue down the street and not come to B.U. Maybe it is a money issue?

  12. We’ve been told that Paul Pearl is the front runner

  13. Pearl was an amazing recruiter at HU.

  14. Donovan Sebrango has signed to play in OHL, along with the above Ryan O’Connell that’s 2 D commits that Albie needs to replace.

  15. And Sebrango was a really high-end recruit. Awful news.

  16. Just the beginning of the exodus. Albie does not have NHL cache. Not his fault. He could recruit because he had Quinn as a selling point. We lost another kid too who went major junior.

Perhaps he can find another way to build a contender. But it ain’t gonna be through NHL first rounders. Those days are over.
