Odds and ends: Commits, decommits and more on the rumor mill

Hi, friends! There have been a few bits and pieces of news over the past few days that don’t warrant their own post, so we’ve compiled a few links here for your reading pleasure and to keep you posted on a few things that have unfolded over the past week or so.

-Over the Boards reports that forward Sean MacTavish, who was slated to come to BU this season, has committed to Alaska-Anchorage instead.

Multiple reports say that Ryan Cloonan will attend BU this fall, instead of in 2016 as originally planned.

-There have been conflicting reports over the past few days about the future of rising sophomore forward J.J. Piccinich, who saw limited playing time last season. One report had him returning to the USHL with Youngstown, while a few reports have him signing with the London Knights of the OHL. For what it’s worth, that uncertainty is just that — we’ve heard that there’s nothing definitive yet in place.

-For some news down the street — reports suggested that BC commit Jeremy Bracco would be decommitting and headed to the OHL. Bracco himself denied these rumors.

  1. How about some intel on why Sean Mactavish left the BU program for Alaska Anchorage. that just doesn’t seem to make sense. Was he asked to defer to 2016? Was scholarship money an issue? Was he not happy with the BU program? Comments, not guessing.

  2. Thanx Sarah for this service . It is great to get these reports about BU hockey in the off season.

  3. Better hope Bracco decommits. another Johnny hockey in waiting

    • That might be a reach don’t think he will be that good.. let’s wait and see I guess… go terriers

  4. Info, including Bracco’s statement, is that he will be at BC this year. Best guess, he will be there for at least 2 years due to size.

  5. Thanks Sarah. Great to get BU Hockey news and discussion during the off-season. Enjoy your summer; and again many thanks.

You’re welcome, Guest! I’m enjoying what I have left of my summer — but I’m constantly in BU hockey mode and anxious for the season to start! Hope you’re enjoying your summer months as well.

  6. Mactavish was a guest with Hickey on a Calgary radio show and said that the BU coaches conveyed that he probably wouldn’t see much ice time and encouraged him to try to find another landing spot for which they would assist. I think the Terrier Hockey Fan Blog had something on this and it is also in the USCHO message board.

  7. why is Vasili Kolias (2015) listed for this year? i think he is next year. right now, counting Gryz, they have 8 D-men

    • He’s listed on EliteProspects as a commit for the 2015-16 season, though he is eligible to return to the Phantoms this year and the team’s GM confirmed he was one of the names on the roster for this year. Right now we’re just waiting for the official BU roster to be released before we make the change. You’re right though, they have plenty of defensive depth so it would make sense if he were to wait a year.

  8. Greetings from the Dingle Peninsula of Ireland! I think the fact that a player like McTavish was not going to be getting significant ice time this coming season speaks volumes about the quality of forwards we will have on our 2015-2016 team.

  9. Thank you Judy for that clarification
